Shamanism:
path of empowerment & healing

with Kate Durda, M.A.
December 6, Saturday 11am- 5pm
at Sparrow's Center for Health, Humanites & WellBeing
1200 E Michigan Ave, Sparrow Professional Bldg, Suite 130
Class
is a pre- requisite for all other advanced Shamanic training and workshops
offered.
Shamanism is an ancient and
powerful spiritual practice utilized throughout history and still today to
restore spiritual and physical health and obtain self-knowledge. The Shamanic
Journey has been called one of the “most remarkable visionary methods used by
humankind to explore the hidden universe otherwise known mainly through myth and
dream”. Groundbreaking work in fields such as the 'new biology', quantum
physics, and alternative medicine are validating what shamans and other wise
spiritual healers knew and practiced thousands of years ago. We know that the
mind/body/spirit connection is of vital importance not only in helping us to
heal from illness, but beyond that, to truly 'thrive' and live in a state
of 'wellness'.
This will be an experiential workshop,
based upon the Foundation for Shamanic Studies (www.Shamanism.org) “Core
Shamanism” approach (those aspects of Shamanism that were common
cross-culturally, and central to all Shamanic practice). You will learn a practice to shift your your
brain wave activity into more optimal states for healing. The benefits of one
type of brain activity, the alpha brainwave, are the ability to relax and keep
the mind on idle when not focused on specific task, heightened feelings of
well-being and euphoria, increased creativity, and deep emotional healing. Yet
it has been found that 20 % of the population does not engage in alpha brain
waves. Also, another benefit of shamanic practice is that it allows us to
engage in deep levels of self-healing, particularly on the subconscious level. You
will learn methods for journeying to discover, and study with your own
individual spiritual teachers in non-ordinary reality, a classic step in
shamanic practice.
Bring a water bottle, LUNCH/Snacks, journal, frame drum or rattle if you have
them (I have extras if not!) Please wear comfortable clothing, warm socks,
&
bring a bandanna or eye cover. Bring rattles/frame drums if you have
them.
Since often people prefer to journey while lying on the floor, you
may want to bring a mat to lie on and a blanket to cover up with. Bring a
sack lunch.

Faery Doctoring:
A Five-Day Residential Training Program
with
Tom Cowan
from
New York see
his website -www.RiverDrum.com
August 6-10, 2008
(starts with dinner at 6pm on Wednesday,
and ends approx 3pm on Sunday)
Pre-requiste:
Shamanic Journey ability as taught by the Foundation for
Shamanic Studies or someone trained in the FSS core shamanic approach. Contact
us if you wish to discuss this.

Faery doctors are
men and women in rural Ireland and other Celtic lands who treat people suffering
from illnesses and misfortunes attributed to faery influence. In the past, faery
doctoring was strongest in areas without western medical care and where the
presence of the Otherworld was recognized as one of the realities of daily life.
As modern ways of life encroached on these traditional societies, faery
doctoring was looked upon as superstition, and much of the old wisdom was lost.
And yet, like shamanism, it is undergoing a revival. The faery doctor -- like
the shaman or the druid -- re-appears in every age to meet the needs of the
times. Every age must, therefore, come to its own understanding of the faery
world and its relationship to it.
Working
as a faery doctor means allying yourself, your shamanic practice, and other
areas of your life with that realm of the Otherworld that some Celtic people
call the Sidhe (pronounced "shee" and meaning both the faery world and the
faeries themselves). It requires working with middle-world spirits according to
our shamanic three-world scheme. Like all shamanic practices, faery doctoring
requires working with and for the spirit world as much as seeking its help for
ours. In fact, being a faery doctor may require living more closely with -- and
between -- the worlds than what many people consider their usual shamanic
practice. It requires new levels of commitment.
This
five-day training program is structured so that participants can "partner up"
with the faery world and learn traditional faery doctoring methods, such as
healing ritual, prayer, gift-giving, song and music, love-talking, life-force
rescuing, using elemental power objects, and other activities. But faery
doctoring is more than just a collection of practices. It is actually a way of
life, a shamanic way of living as faery allies who continue, even after the five
days, to discover and create ways to promote health, beauty, love, vitality, and
a relationship with the Sidhe based on cooperation, friendship, and affection.
There is
a growing realization that the faery world and ours must live, work, and play in
greater harmony than they currently do. The epidemic of illnesses with
traditional faery-related symptoms -- such as tiredness, depression,
listlessness, low enthusiasm for life, and an inability to focus attention that
suggests partial soul loss -- is one manifestation of this disharmony. The Sidhe
are taking energy and vitality from humans to restore and re-balance the life
force that we consume wastefully, selfishly, and in great quantities. Modern
exploitation of Earth's resources weakens Earth's ability to sustain diversity
of life, including the life of the Sidhe.
The Sidhe
need human allies and human energy to help them preserve Nature's vitality, just
as we need their cooperation to heal individuals suffering from faery-related
illnesses.
Participants should be seriously committed to shamanic living and be interested
in adapting their current shamanic practice to middle-world work with the Sidhe.
This is an advanced program, and participants need strong shamanic skills and
some degree of commitment to using shamanism to learn faery doctoring so they
can serve the needs of the human world, the faery world, and the Earth that is
our common home.. Hopefully, we will become a new generation of faery doctors.

This weekend
experiential training is based on the information in Medicine for the
Earth . We experience how to transform personal and environmental
pollution by learning how to transmute negative beliefs, attitudes, and energy
which is generated by emotions. Transmutation works on the principal "As
within, so without. As above, so below." Using a specific spiritual methodology,
we will work together to restore harmony and balance in our exterior environment
by creating positive change within ourselves.
During this experiential training, we will use a powerful combination of guided
meditation, shamanic journey work and ceremony, our work will focus on learning
to transform physical, emotional and mental toxins that negatively
affect our health and the health of Mother Earth.
The process continues with learning how to work in
cooperation with helping spirits and the spirits of the land as well as getting
in touch with our own internal divine nature to create healing and
transmutation. Other key elements and spiritual practices will also be explored
which can be easily incorporated into daily life. These methods are necessary
and helpful for transforming and transmuting environmental and personal toxins.
In addition to shamanic journeying, meditation, toning
, singing and movement will be utilized to help change states of
consciousness and raise awareness. The work done as a group in collaboration
with community and the spirits is truly a life transforming experience.

People of every age may
have profound beliefs and meaningful spiritual experiences- throughout our
lives. Young folks may be more ‘in tune’ from a very early age! In this
workshop, participants will ‘journey’ to discover their ‘Power Animal” or Totem.
In traditional cultures spiritual beliefs, power animals are animal spirits
which reside within each individual and keep us safe, and are like our ‘guardian
angels’. They lend us their strength, and share their abilities and wisdom.
EAGLE
may see clearly and know what is happening at
any time;
FOX may be good at blending in, and avoiding trouble;
BEAR may offer their strength and protection;
SPIDER may share her ability to weave and create beautiful art.
WOLF may show us the path, where to walk, how to live!
DOLPHIN may show us how to be comfortable with others!
Participants will also have
the opportunity to share with each other their experiences, and to drum, dance,
and sing, to connect and experience the gifts of their power animal/totem,
through the use of rattles, frame drums and a 24inch ‘pow wow’ style drum
(provided).

Creative Spirit Center, Midland, Michigan
with KATE
DURDA, M.A.
Cost $ $60

Come rejuvenate!

self.

Join us for a relaxing, rejuvenating session of guided visualization, drumming,
and more!
Learn established techniques that will
help you relax, and recover your sense of self and your energy .
The many demands of workplace, family
and society can deplete us, while proper attention to our selves can help us
maintain balance and vitality, and a sense of calm.
This experiential workshop is focused on
coming home to our True
Self – living in synchrony with our “soul’s
purpose”. The “True Self” is that place from which we truly can be in harmony
with who we are, what gives us joy and meaning. From that place of centeredness,
we recover, remember, and learn how to stay in balance, full of energy, with joy
and passion for living! Will include guided visualization, mind/body exercises,
movement, & ‘frame’ drumming!
Bring a
journal and pen, snacks, and a frame drum if you have one. Please wear
comfortable clothing, warm socks, and bring a bandanna or eye cover. Since
often people prefer to so some of the visualization exercises while lying on the
floor, fully relaxed, you may want to bring a mat to lie on and a blanket to
cover up with.

or
experience with Shamanic Journey from Spirit Weavers or other similar teachings.
If you are seeking to improve your life, strengthen your spirituality, and be
the person you were meant to be in this life time, this is a good program for
you! If you are serious about developing a solid foundation in Shamanism, this
work will help you truly gain the power to be a spiritual force for good in your
own life, and for the world. Power is the ability to use energy, and a
spiritually adept person is able to manifest change for their own and others’
highest good. This program has been positively life altering to past
participants.
This is the program for you
if you are serious about developing a solid foundation in Shamanism. You will receive training, and through experiential work will develop a powerful
personal spiritual practice. We believe that
it
is important to take things one step at a
time, and really learn about Shamanism, deepen your spiritual practice, and find
your true selves before moving on to learning advanced healing methods.
Please note that Spirit
Weavers offers a comprehensive training program of advanced workshops, including
Advanced Shamanic Healing Methods Training
(offered again in Oct 2008) for your further study.
Shamanism is a
Path of Healing. Shamanism training does not “make you’ a shaman. Only
Spirit directs that. However, through Shamanic practice, we ‘re-member’ who we
really are. We remember, therefore, our true soul’s purpose. Through this
process deepening our understanding and self-knowledge, we can regain intimate
connection with our gifts, innate abilities, passion for life, our purpose, and
we learn to live/work/create from a balanced, powerful, and deep place of love,
personal power, and connection. *** This is “the Journey of the Open Heart ***
This program will provide a
safe & supportive community for your work. During our on-going training, the
same group will meet for five full days (usually once a month). In this
program, I will guide you in deepening your shamanic practice and experiences,
allow your natural abilities to be revealed and strengthened, and will introduce
a lot of experiences including, but NOT limited to:
Various
methods of journeying
shamanic healing: of self, and for others, including healing spirits of place,
divination methods
working with nature spirits
shamanic practices from other shamanic cultures
use of power objects such as medicine bags, rocks and crystals, masks, amulets,
use of ceremony, ritual, prayer, song, movement, meditation,
dream work, journaling, etc.
Spirituality is about who you are becoming, so the time you spend on your own
personal work is very valuable.
Each Saturday will include some lecture, lots of experiential work,
individually/with partner/ in group. There will be ceremony, dance or song, and
outdoor work at times. Also, I will support focused time for individual
spiritual quests and exploration. Our final session is usually held at my home,

$150 late registration at door, if room
** If you have taken MFE before with me or other FSS folks, repeat is only

This experiential training is based on
the information in Medicine for the Earth . We experience how to transform
personal and environmental pollution by learning how to transmute negative
beliefs, attitudes, and energy which is generated by emotions.
Transmutation works on the principal "As within, so without. As above, so
below." Using a specific spiritual methodology, we will work together to restore
harmony and balance in our exterior environment by creating positive change
within ourselves.
FIRE
CEREMONY Saturday ; Transfiguration Healng Ceremony Sunday.

The Peace & Healing group
was implemented to weave a solid spiritual approach into the peace movement.
When asked if she would join a "anti-war" march, Mother Teresa declined. She
added that she would join in a "peace march". The Peace & Healing group
aims to provide a positive action group to explore and promote peace, social
justice, personal and community healing, and healthy living. Purpose includes:
to promote social justice in accordance with higher beliefs; to explore and
promote spiritual practices supporting personal and community healing, health,
and peace; and promote a shared recognition of our ‘oneness’ not only with all
people, but also all of life. Spiritual awareness is key to this group's
existence. Protest and acts of conscience are critical, but
there is much more work needed in our efforts to creating peace, both in

with Kate Durda in Chatham, Ontario
May 25, 2007, Friday 6-9pm

Shamanism is an ancient and
powerful spiritual practice utilized throughout history and still today to
restore spiritual and physical health and obtain self-knowledge. The Shamanic
Journey has been called one of the “most remarkable visionary methods used by
humankind to explore the hidden universe otherwise known mainly through myth and
dream”. This will be an experiential workshop, based upon the
Foundation for Shamanic Studies
www.Shamanism.org ) “Core Shamanism”
approach (those aspects of Shamanism that were common cross-culturally, and
central to all Shamanic practice). You will learn methods for journeying to
discover, and study with your own individual spiritual teachers in non-ordinary
reality, a classic step in shamanic practice.
We will discuss shamanic healing methods, and application to your everyday
life, including working with Spirits of Nature, healing self, healing the land,
etc.
Bring a water bottle, snacks, journal, frame drum or
rattle if you have them (I have extras if not!) Please wear comfortable clothing, warm
socks, & bring a bandanna or eye cover. Bring rattles/frame drums if you

Medicine for the Earth:
Restoring Health to Self and
Environment
with Kate Durda, M.A.
May 26-27,2007 in Chatham, Ontario, Canada
Cost: $95 Canadian if paid by May 18th; $115 if
paid later, or at door, if room. Space is limited. Please register early to
ensure a place in the training.
(see also the accompanying May 25th 2 hr Intro
to journeying above, for wkshop participants only)
This weekend experiential training is
based on the information in Medicine for the Earth . We experience how to
transform personal and environmental pollution by learning how to transmute
negative beliefs, attitudes, and energy which is generated by emotions.
Transmutation works on the principal "As within, so without. As above, so
below." Using a specific spiritual methodology, we will work together to restore
harmony and balance in our exterior environment by creating positive change
within ourselves.
During this experiential training, we will use a powerful combination of guided
meditation, shamanic journey work and ceremony, our work will focus on learning
to transform physical, emotional and mental toxins that negatively affect our
health and the health of Mother Earth.
In addition to shamanic journeying, meditation, toning
, singing and movement will be utilized to help change states of consciousness
and raise awareness. The work done as a group in collaboration with community
and the spirits is truly a life transforming experience.
Kate & Stephanie have worked with Sandra extensively and have completed her MFE
Teacher Training to present this work. For info about

may discover more of your your true selves in this program. Through Shamanic practice, we ‘re-member’ who we really are….And we
remember, therefore, our true soul’s purpose. Through this process of
remembering, and deepening our understanding and self-knowledge, we can regain
our passion for life, our purpose, and we learn to live/work/create from a

journey of the open heart.
By remembering and healing our ‘selves’, we
become part of the larger process of remembering and healing each other, and the
environments around us. “As within, so without". Shamanism is
a spiritual practice of restoring and maintaining balance, harmony,
connection and love…Shamanism is a Path of Healing.

one Saturday a month for 5 months , and will deepen shamanic journeying skills
and other shamanic practices.
In this program, I will guide you in deepening your
shamanic practice and experiences, and will introduce a lot of experiences
including, but NOT limited to:
Various methods of journeying
shamanic healing - of self and for
others, including healing spirits of place
divination methods
working with nature spirits
shamanic practices from other
shamanic cultures
use of power objects such as rocks
and crystals, masks, amulets,
use of ceremony, ritual, prayer,
song, movement, meditation,
dream work, journaling, etc.
Each Saturday will include some lecture, lots of experiential work,
individually/with partner/ in group. There will be ceremony, dance or song,
and outdoor work at times. Also, I will support focused time for
individual spiritual quests and exploration. Spirituality is about who you are
becoming, so the time you spend on your own personal work is very valuable. In
addition, there will be group discussions and time for question/answer.

Many different kinds of beings dwell in this world that we live in.
Compassionate spirits and deities are some of those beings that are willing
to share their knowledge and wisdom to help humankind and the earth.
Mediumship, a partnering of spirit and humanity, is one of the ways that
these beings are able to offer their help. Join Betsy Bergstrom in a 2-day
workshop exploring this practice.
Mediums are people who are able to align their vibration with those of the
high spiritual beings in order to become channels or conduits for their
wisdom to come through. There are different styles and practices of
mediumship, including verbal and written channeling.
Some people are natural mediums and may be unaware of their abilities in
this area. Sometimes people are unknowingly channeling the thoughts and
feelings of spirits of the dead or even living people. Empathy and psychic
abilities may be aspects of mediumistic gifts. Lack of awareness off these
abilities or lack of training in them may unfortunately result in a variety
of mediumistic illnesses.
The workshop includes:
· Explore the nature of conscious mediumship
· Exploring different styles of mediumship
· Learning authentic partnering with compassionate spirits
· Protocols for safety
· Determining personal gifts and styles
· Developing a mediumistic practice

cultures. As a small child she was recognized by Hawaiian kahunas and was made
aware of her Helping Spirits and Totem Animals. As a teenager, she was
recognized as a spiritual healer and medium by ministers of the Spiritualist
Church. In her 30´s and 40`s, she has been trained by a number of indigenous
shamans and healers from many cultures. Her own practice of depossission
incorporates many Middle World elements that are not part of core shamanism and
the Foundation`s program. She is a graduate of the Foundation for Shamanic
Studies 3-Year Program, and has also taught Depossession through the Foundation
Her calling is to work in partnership with the Helping Spirits, to help the

Celtic
Shamanism: Two-Year
Training Program
with
Tom Cowan
from
New York
see
his website -www.RiverDrum.com
May 12-14, 2006,
Nov. 10-12, 2006,
May 4-6, 2007,
Nov. 9-11. 2007
Costs range from $490-$570 per session depending on housing choice
Register by March 1 for discounted cost:
add $50 for late registration, if space available! see registration
link below for all cost/due date information.
Program begins at 9:30 am on Friday, we will end by 4pm on Sunday. |
This program is an opportunity to acquire
and hone shamanic skills in a Celtic context, using traditional Celtic practices
mixed with core shamanic techniques. The program is part of the worldwide
revival of shamanic lore and customs. By means of ongoing study and practice we
adapt the Old Ways of Celtic and European peoples to the modern world. We
recover and utilize shamanic wisdom found in folk customs, fairy traditions,
ancient myths and rituals, and traditional healing and visionary methods.
On-going practice at home is expected between sessions which occur in the
spring and fall of two
consecutive years.
Celtic shamanism is a forest tradition in
which seership, shapeshifting, poetry, and participation in the life of the
elements of nature play important roles for the shaman and healer. A major
element in Celtic shamanism is poetry, for poets had shamanic healing and
visionary skills, so we will explore ways to use poetry in healing and ritual
work.
The training also includes working with the
cauldrons of the soul and key Celtic gods, goddesses, and other spirits when
appropriate for shamanic work, especially the spirits known as the Sidhe, the
People of the Goddess Danu.
As presented in this program, Celtic
shamanism is a living tradition that comes from older practices and folklore
combined with modern shamanic techniques that can be used in healing sessions
with clients or solely for one's own spiritual and personal development.
We use seasonal rituals and ceremonial
activities to align ourselves with the old Celtic calendar. At Samhain we engage
in the Wild Hunt, a form of ritual battle against the coming forces of death and
destruction most prevalent in the winter months.
In the spring we learn a healing ritual
called the Beheading Game, based on a Celtic tradition similar to the practice
in other shamanic cultures where the shaman takes on an illness or problem in
order to transmute it.
We will also practice some Celtic-based
meditation techniques that do not require drums or rattles. And we will learn
ways of entering nonordinary reality that are closer to the Celtic understanding
of the Otherworld as being present here in ordinary reality. At our last meeting
we use the Celtic shaman's initiation found in a Welsh myth to complete our
training.
One of the benefits of an ongoing program is
to participate in a stable community of shamanists. We all gain insight and
wisdom from each other, and as the program progresses, the support of a familiar
community enriches our shamanic practice. Guided by our helping spirits, the
program will acquire its own unique life, punctuated with surprise and discovery
as we go along.
This will be a three day residential program
(Friday am thru Sunday afternoon) held at
the Kellogg Biological Station Conference Center situated on beautiful Gull Lake
in southwest Michigan (see
www.kbs.msu.edu/Conference).

Shining Light in the Darkness:

possession, curses, and all that dark and scary stuff!

$10 pre-registration/ $15 at Door
Join Betsy Bergstrom of Seattle, Wa. for an investigation into the
unknown (mostly) and the unusual that we all hear about and that some of us have
experienced. Science, especially quantum physics, is showing us that no longer
does the maxim “I will believe it when I see it!” apply in quite the same way. A
lot more is going on than meets the eye. Haunted houses, ghosts, deceased
relative’s spirits appearing- learn more about these phenomenon. Also more than
an esoteric curiosity, for example, curses and thought-forms, both intentional
and unintentional, abound in this world that we live in. Many of us live lives
that are overshadowed by non-positive beliefs, thought-forms and outright curses
(some inherited from our ancestors!) that limit us from achieving our true
potential.
Shining Light in the
Darkness
is an informal and informative talk about some of the unusual things that can
and do happen AND what we can do about them. Ms. Bergstrom helps to demystify
and defuse fear about the unusual, without taking away the wonder of it all, and
is adept at handling difficult problems of possession, haunting and curses.
Betsy is a sensitive, healer, teacher and shamanic practitioner and speaks from
extensive experience. Please join us! This talk kicks off the beginning of a
series of three training workshops Betsy will teach in Lansing this year!

December 2005
Medicine for the Earth:
Personal and Environmental Transformation
with Kate and Stephanie in the Lansing, Michigan area
Saturday 10 am - 5 pm, Sunday 10 am - 4 pm
December 3-4, 2005
Cost: sliding scale
$125 to $200 by November 23, 2005; $150 -$250 at door, space available..
This weekend
experiential training is based on the information in Medicine for the Earth .
We experience how to transform personal and environmental pollution by learning
how to transmute negative beliefs, attitudes, and energy which is generated by
emotions. Transmutation works on the principal "As within, so without. As
above, so below." Using a specific spiritual methodology, we will work together
to restore harmony and balance in our exterior environment by creating positive
change within ourselves.
During this experiential training, we will use a powerful combination of guided
meditation, shamanic journey work and ceremony, our work will focus on learning
to transform physical, emotional and mental toxins that negatively affect our
health and the health of Mother Earth.
In addition to shamanic journeying, meditation, toning
, singing and movement will be utilized to help change states of consciousness
and raise awareness. The work done as a group in collaboration with community
and the spirits is truly a life transforming experience.
Kate & Stephanie have worked with Sandra extensively and have completed her MFE
Teacher Training to present this work. For info about

Conflict offers a
sacred opportunity to be peace makers. Being a peace maker leads us to explore

healers of our times. As peace makers we begin to heal a long history of trauma
that spans the generations and whose seeds live in the soil we on which we stand

In addition to shamanic journeying, meditation, toning
, singing and movement will be utilized to help change states of consciousness
and raise awareness. The work done as a group in collaboration with community
and the spirits is truly a life transforming experience.

The clearing of possessing spirits has a profound impact on the person
suffering from the problem, as well as on the practitioner who facilitates the
clearing. Heart Centered Shamanic Clearing is a form of basic shamanic
depossession and clearing work that incorporates the partnership of the Light of
the Creator and the Heart Light of the Practitioner, along with the Helping
Spirits to safely and respectfully free human beings from possession by
suffering beings of all kinds. This training is for all practitioners who
are interested in the recognition of possession, techniques for clearing and
protocols for protection.

* Nature &
fundamentals of possession and multiple possession
* The nature and possibilities of the Middle World
* Middle World protection and Allies * Recognition of possession
and multiple possession
* Techniques for clearing the suffering beings, including live demonstrations

Betsy Bergstrom is a full-time Shamanic Practitioner from
Seattle, Washington, who has studied with shamans and healers from many
Her calling is to work in partnership with the Helping Spirits, to help the
living and with the dead.
Betsy says;
"The feedback
from my classes has been that the teaching defused much of the fear that some
people felt in approaching the work of clearing and depossession."

Shamanism Apprenticeship
Program :
Journey of the Open Heart
with Kate Durda,
Workshop was delayed due
to snow in January: FIRST SESSION Starts Feb 5!
February 5, March 5, April 9, May 7, & one day to be
determined
held in Lansing area, Michigan
Cost $325 for
entire program
Pre-requisite: Intro Shamanism training; ability to do shamanic journeying.
This apprenticeship program is for those
of you who want to learn about Shamanism, deepen your spiritual practice, and
find your true selves. Through Shamanic practice, we ‘re-member’ who we
really are….And we remember, therefore, our true soul’s purpose. Through this
process of remembering, and deepening our understanding and self-knowledge, we
can regain our passion for life, our purpose, and we learn to live/work/create
from a balanced, powerful, and deep place of love, personal power, and
connection… The journey of the open heart.
By remembering and healing our ‘selves’, we become
part of the larger process of remembering and healing each other, and the
environments around us. “As within, so without". Shamanism is a spiritual
practice of restoring and maintaining balance, harmony, connection and
love…Shamanism is a Path of Healing.
This program will provide a safe and supportive
community for your work. During our on-going training, the same group will meet
one Saturday a month for 5 months , and will deepen shamanic journeying skills
and other shamanic practices.
In this program, I will guide you in deepening your
shamanic practice and experiences, and will introduce a lot of experiences
including, but NOT limited to:
Various methods of journeying
shamanic self-healing,
other healing methods such as Tuvan
drum healing, and word doctoring
divination methods
working with nature spirits
shamanic practices from other
shamanic cultures
use of power objects such as rocks
and crystals, masks, amulets,
use of ceremony, ritual, prayer, song, movement, meditation,
dream work, journaling, etc.
Each Saturday will include some lecture, lots
of experiential work, individually/with partner/ in group. There will be
ceremony, dance or song, and outdoor work at times. Also, I will support
focused time for individual spiritual quests and exploration. Spirituality is
about who you are becoming, so the time you spend on your own personal work is
very valuable. In addition, there will be group discussions and time for
question/answer.
If you are interested in this program, please email SpiritWeaver@voyager.net
or call
Kate Durda at 517 543 6754…and I will send further information about how
to apply for this program.

Teachings on the Four Agreements
with Stephanie Tighe, MSW in Lansing, Mi.
at Sparrow Center for Health, Humanities and Well-Being
Wednesdays, February 2-23, 7:30-9 pm
cost $50 per person
This course is based on the book "The Four Agreements" by Don Miguel Ruiz.
The Four Agreements offers a powerful code of conduct that can rapidly transform
our lives to a new experience of freedom, true happiness, and love. The Four
Agreements has the potential to help you move your attention from what the world
thinks you "should" do or be to what you know is right for you, reclaim
scattered personal energy and power, and open up to a deeper intimacy in
personal relationships. According to don Miguel Ruiz, everything we do is based
on agreements we have made ― agreements with ourselves, with other people, with
God, with life. But the most important agreements are the ones we make with
ourselves. In these agreements we tell ourselves who we are, how to behave, what
is possible, what is impossible. One single agreement is not such a problem, but
we have many agreements that come from fear, deplete our energy, and diminish
our self-worth. In this 4-week course we will spend one week discussing each of
the agreements and also discuss the changes that are beginning in our lives.

August 2004
Abstract of
Youth Peacemaker Conference workshop:
Being “ONE WITH” - presented by Kate Durda, M.A.
Practices
and Teachings for Healing our Relationships with Each Other and Nature
We will explore and
work with basic spiritual principles of connectedness, and health. Major
premises are that all things are connected, and all things have a ‘spirit’.
Thus, when war takes its toll on people, it also takes a toll on the land.
Everyone, and everything suffers. Life is degraded, decreased, energy and
vitality and balance are lost. War could not be conducted if people saw
themselves as intimately connected to the ‘other’. Similarly, people could not
degrade the environment with pollution and destruction if they knew and felt
their interrelationship on the deep level upon which we are connected !
In this experiential
workshop, we will
explore the experiences of ‘separation from’ others and Nature, and how to heal
from this separation, including ‘healing the land’ where conflict has
happened. Using guided imagery, shamanic drumming, and other exercises,
participants will learn how to establish and maintain a state of being ONE with
all things.
The presenter will be drawing from her training as a developmental psychologist,
as well as her spiritual healing training. She has been a teacher, healer, and
researcher for over 25 years. She conducts workshops on Shamanism and Shamanic
healing methods, has presented at conferences, including the 1st U.S.
Conference on Children's Spirituality , Oct 4-7,2001 in Atlanta,Ga.

As the causes of illness today are different than in ancient times, our healing
methods must be updated to deal with modern day illness. So much of the
illnesses we see today such as the epidemic rate of cancer and the increase in
immune deficiency problems are a direct result of the chemical pollution in our
environment.
The focus of this training will be on learning new methods of healing that can
be integrated into your shamanic healing practice. We will explore the use of
transfiguration (shapeshifting into your own divinity, also known as the
Medicine for the Earth work) as well as methods of merging with helping spirits
to go beyond traditional healing methods and open us to the power of the
universe that knows how to heal and transmute illness.

with Kate Durda at the Northern Edge Algonquin Lodge in Canada

Conflict offers a
sacred opportunity to be peace makers. Being a peace maker leads us to explore

what we know, to deepen our collective learning, and become the peacemakers and
healers of our times. As peace makers we begin to heal a long history of trauma
that spans the generations and whose seeds live in the soil we on which we stand

Personal and Environmental Transformation
with Kate and Stephanie at
Bengel Wildlife Center near Bath, Mi.
Saturday 10 am - 5 pm, Sunday 10 am - 4 pm
April 3-4, 2004
Cost: sliding scale
$100 to $150 by March 20. ($120-$150 after the 20th)
Preregistration by MARCH 20 is graciously requested.
In addition to shamanic journeying, meditation, toning
, singing and movement will be utilized to help change states of consciousness
and raise awareness. The work done as a group in collaboration with community
and the spirits is truly a life transforming experience.
Kate & Stephanie have worked with Sandra extensively and have completed her MFE

find your true selves.
Meals will be
on your own.. and I will encourage ‘brownbagging’ it. The location where we
will meet has a refrigerator, microwave, even an oven. Coffee , Tea, and water
will be provided . At times, I may l have a shamanic video for those
interested to watch at lunch time.
If you are interested in this program, please email SpiritWeaver@voyager.net
or call Kate Durda at 517 543 6754…and we will put you on this list of those
interested, and send further information (content, meeting dates, costs, etc.
) about the program. This info should be available in early December.

Tibetan Shamanism: Soul Retrieval
and Psychopomp Process
with Dr. Larry Peters in Lansing, Michigan
July 12-13, 2003
Cost is $180.00 if registered by June 20, 2003, after that the cost is $200
Soul retrieval in the Tibetan/Tamang tradition is multifaceted. It involves
the ritual skills as well as the journeywork of the shamanic practitioner.
Soul retrieval, indigenously called gunnasera utthar puja
(literally, going to find and bring back the heat/mind-soul ritual) is more
often than not combined with other healing processes like extraction,
divination, spirit invocation, and psychopompic work. When these multiple
processes are involved, the ritual as a whole is often known as karga puja
(spirit weapons ceremony). This workshop is actually a ritual in itself, and
involves the group first learning and then carrying out a performance of
karga puja. For more information visit www.lpshaman.com

JOURNEY
CIRCLE : How to Start One
with Kate Durda in the Upper Peninsula, Marquette, Michigan
July 23 or 24th, 6:00-8:30pm Cost - Donation/Love offering
Prerequisite: Knowing how to do shamanic journey
What
we will do/discuss:
What is a JOURNEY CIRCLE ? It is a
gathering of those who wish to support each other in deepening your practice and
experience of Shamanism. Typically the focus is on Shamanic Journeys for self
and community /earth etc healing and information. Many circles also gather at
certain other times of ceremony such as Solstice, Feast of the Dead, Equinox
celebrations.
A shamanic journey circle can offer a ‘core’
spirituality experience for those who are from and of many spiritual and
healing traditions. And provide a comfortable circle experience for meeting and
sharing.
This evening will include presentation of information
useful for starting a community “drumming circle”. Drumming circles are
typically intended for those who have learned how to journey, and wish to
deepen their experience with the shamanic journey and practice, with support of
others, what they learned in the Intro training. Establishment of a solid
relationship with your Spirit Allies (teachers and power animals) is essential
before entering into training for any healing work.
In Drumming Circle, participants will work with their spirit helpers to learn
how to deepen their connection with them, to improve their practice of
divination and healing methods taught in the intro workshops, and to learn how
to bring the wisdom of shamanism home into their everyday lives.

This weekend
experiential training is based on the information in Medicine for the Earth .
We experience how to transform personal and environmental pollution by learning

change within ourselves.

meditation, shamanic journey work and ceremony, our work will focus on learning
to transform physical, emotional and mental toxins that negatively affect our
health and the health of Mother Earth.

Shamanism and the

September 20-21, 2003

ends at 5:30 pm. Sunday we will meet from 9 am until 3:30 pm.
Cost is $175.00 if registered by
September 3, 2003, after that the cost is $195
From ancient times, shamans have
worked with the spirits of Nature for healing, survival, and knowledge. By
learning from the plants and animals, from the rocks and mountains, from the
winds and waters, and from the sun, moon and stars, shamans helped their peoples
live in harmony with the universe. In a world now out of balance, the way of the
shaman can teach how again to respect nature, our Planet, and its inhabitants at
a deep spiritual level. As our ancestors everywhere once knew, our own survival
depends on the survival of the other species. By working together intensively
through shamanic journeys and other spiritual experiences, we will dedicate
ourselves to working in both non-ordinary and ordinary reality to restore and
maintain a living Earth. Prerequisite: the Basic Workshop (The Way of the
Shaman).

restore spiritual and physical health and obtain self-knowledge. The Shamanic
Journey has been called one of the “most remarkable visionary methods used by
humankind to explore the hidden universe otherwise known mainly through myth and
dream”. This will be an experiential workshop, based upon the
Foundation for Shamanic Studies (www.Shamanism.org) “Core Shamanism”
approach (those aspects of Shamanism that were common cross-culturally, and
central to all Shamanic practice). You will learn methods for journeying to
discover, and study with your own individual spiritual teachers in non-ordinary
reality, a classic step in shamanic practice. Bring a journal, frame drum or
rattle if you have them. Please wear comfortable clothing, warm
socks, & bring a bandanna or eye cover. Bring rattles/frame drums if you
have them. Since often people prefer to journey while lying on the floor, you
may want to bring a mat to lie on and a blanket to cover up with.

Harmony with Nature: Within and Without
Transmuting Personal
and Environmental Toxins
Kate Durda,M.A. & Stephanie Tighe, MSW in
Lansing, Michigan
NOTE:
These are different dates as of 9-18-03
Wednesdays, November 5, 12, & 19
6:30pm-8pm
$60 person
This workshop is based on the
groundbreaking work of Sandra Ingerman. Kate and Stephanie have completed the
teacher training for this workshop and worked extensively with Sandra Ingerman.
From cross-cultural legends of shamanic cures
to biblical accounts of seas parting and water transforming to wine, many
spiritual traditions are rich with stories about unexplainable miracles. The
ancient healing art of "transmutation" is mentioned in all great spiritual
traditions, including Hinduism and Taoism.
Transmutation works on the principal "As within, so without. As above, so
below." Using a specific spiritual methodology, we will work together to restore
harmony and balance in our exterior environment by creating positive change
within ourselves.
We will use a powerful combination of guided meditation, shamanic journey work
and ceremony as we explore learning how to transform physical, emotional and
mental issues that hinder our health and growth, and the health of Mother Earth.
This training is for you if...
·
You want to foster your own
healing and transformation
·
You would like to support balance
and health of the earth
·
You believe in miracles
·
You are feeling motivated to do
something in the wake of world events and need for peace
·

spiritual practice of Shamanism or deepen your abilities and practice
You are encouraged to

Preregistration by October 15 is graciously requested.
In addition to shamanic journeying, meditation, toning
, singing and movement will be utilized to help change states of consciousness
and raise awareness. The work done as a group in collaboration with community
and the spirits is truly a life transforming experience.
